Pitkin, Thos. Seymour and Oliver Ellsworth; signed on the back by Bigelow acknowledging receipt of funds, along with docketing. 15x18 c,. (6x7¼"). * Voucher instructing payment "out of the Colony Treasury to Capt. Elisha Phelps or order the sum of Ten pounds lawful money it being for his expenses for going to Ticonderoga..." Signed by Ezra Williams, Oliver Ellsworth & Wm. Pitkin; signed on the back by Phelps acknowledging receipt of funds, along with docketing. 12x19 cm. (4¾x7½").
Payment vouchers for one of the most significant actions in the early stages of the Revolutionary War, the capture of Fort Ticonderoga by the Green Mountain Boys and forces under Benedict Arnold. Oliver Ellsworth (1745-1807), here a member of the Committee of Pay, would go on to help draft the U.S. Constitution and become the third Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Condition:
The second voucher with ½" hole in center, another smaller hole at rught; else 1st near fine, 2nd very good.
