Description:
8 lines, in ink, with endorsement and docketing on verso. 12.2x20.7 cm. (4¾x8¼").
Order from the Connecticut Pay-Table-Committee (apparently in Ellsworth's hand, but this is not verified), authorizing treasurer Jonathan Lawrence to "Pay Mr. Zachariah Pratt Seventeen Shillings & Six pence for 3 Cartouch [i.e. Cartridge] Boxes - Supplied the troops now raising in this Colony...July 6th, 1776." Signed by Thomas Lawrence, Ezra William and Oliver Ellsworth as members of the Committee; endorsed to Ellsworth by Pratt on the verso, and signed again by Ellsworth in receipt of payment. A fine Revolutionary War document executed just two days after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
