[18] (incl. added engraved title), 218, [26], 36, [8], 64 pp. Copper-engraved frontispiece portrait & the added engraved title. (folio) 26.8x17.2 cm. (10½x6¾"), 20th century half brown morocco & marbled boards, spine lettered in gilt. Sixth Edition.
Compilation of the miscellaneous scientific writings and experiments of Francis Bacon. Bound with, as issued, "New Atlantis. A worke unfinished" [n. p., n.d], and "History naturall and experimentall, of life and death, or of the prolongation of life", printed for William Lee and Humphrey Moseley in 1650.
Condition:
Moderate rubbing to edges and corners of binding; margins trimmed close affecting some letter on two or three leaves towards rear, 2 cm. missing from upper right corner of title-page., blind-stamp ownership mark on title-page and following preliminary leaf, both with a light dampstain, and the latter also with a small dark stain and faint ink number stamp; overall very good.
