Description:
Catalogues of the Annual Exhibition of the Society of Independent Artists. With: 15th Annual, 1931; 16th Annual, 1932; 22nd Annual, 1938 (spiral bound); 24th Annual, 1940 (spiral bound); 25th Annual [Silver Jubilee], 1941 (spiral bound); 28th Annual, 1944. Also, 2 booklets from Whitney Museum of American Art. Together, 8 pamphlets. Illustrated from paintings, drawings, etc. Each approx. 9x6, wrappers. First appearances.
A collection of art catalogues from The Society of Independent Artists, which was formed in 1917 by Marcel Duchamp, a French Dada artist. Also includes two booklets from the Whitney Museum of American Art: "Abstract Painting in America," 1935 and "Emil Ganso, 1895-1941." Also, a folding broadside of a public show with Toni Sarg and the Society of Independent Artists, (12¼"x8½"); folding advertisement sheet "Paintings by Margaret Mullin" with preview date and times handwritten to cover; and a lithographed card (5"x8½") advertising "Paintings, Joseph Meert, The Ganso Gallery, Nov.24 to Dec.13" with dates changed by hand from the original & mailing envelope with Joseph Meert signature and date for addressee.
Condition:
Some general edge wear and soiling; 24th annual with front cover detached (rear nearly so), chipping and tears to edges; broadside with some tears to edges; contents fine, else good to very good, overall.
