Description:
Partially printed form, filled out in ink. 10x8.
The document, headed Republic of Texas, County of San Augustine, reveals that "Mary Cartwright as principal, and R.P. Cartwright & John C. Cartwright as securites, are firmly bound, with A.M. Davis Chief Justice and Judge of the Probate Court..., in the just and full sum of Fifteen Thousand Dollars... The condition of the above Obligation is such - Whereas the above bound Mary Cartwright has been appointed by the Probate Court of San Augustine County Guardian of Richard Hamilton(?) Cartwright minor heir of John Cartwright, Now if the said Mary Cartwright shall well and truly perform all the duties that are or may be required of her as such guardian according to the law, the above Bond or Obligation to be void..." Signed with Mary Cartwright's mark, and by R.P. Cartwright and John C. Cartwright. These Cartwrights are undoubtedly related to Texas pioneer John Cartwright, of Palo Gaucho, five miles outside San Augustine, said to have built the first cotton gin in Texas, who died in 1841.
